About Kim
“Kim Nguyen Ngoc paints as others breathe - instinclively, tenderly, with a pulse that echoes both strength and surrender.
Deeply inspired by the poetic spirit of Hugo Pratt, but above all nourished by the vivid, living influence of his mentor and friend Andrew Guidry (“Indigo”), Kim’s work sits at the crossroads of comics, lyricism, an fine art. His figures are quiet sentinels - naked not only in body, but in spirit - poised between vulnerability and resilience.
There’s a palpable intimacy in his work. We witness a man confronting his own reflection in flesh and ink, navigating longing, memory, and the aching beauty of presence. Kim’s palette bleeds with emotion: bruised reds, ghostly violets, flickers of blue like shadows slipping through fingers. He paints not to depict the body, but what trembles beneath it - emulating a delicate balance between the emotional restraint of Jean-Claude Götting and the wild sensuality of Brett Whiteley.
By showing his work, Kim opens his heart wide. It’s up to us to step in - to inspect what heart he’s made of: perhaps gold, perhaps scars, perhaps something softer still. Like his art, it lingers.”
